ENTER NOCTURNAL: DANNY SILVERTONE’S VIVID, BOLD WORLD

Danny Silvertone’s sophomore album Nocturnal, out April 19, embraces a dark sensuality inspired by alt-pop, R&B & rock.

Silvertone dropped singles starting in the fall to slowly introduce Nocturnal to the world, discovering themes of taboo, romance and fixation with unexplored possibilities.

Album opener and recent single Risk It All, merges hip-hop production and swagger with a pop song’s sensibility. Silvertone explained his production process behind the track, “I set out to create a record that captured the energy of a live performance using live instruments and drum kits, but also had the bass-heavy club tone of more pop-oriented songs that we hear while we’re out partying or at the club.

A dark glamour inspired by The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness and Tumblr’s mid-2010’s pop era proliferates the 10-track album. Silvertone frequently explores the forbidden and seductive side of relationships on tracks like “Risk It All,” “Freak” and “New To You.” “Uneasy” echoes emo-pop stars like The Kid LAROI and iann dior with sleek production and an infectious hook.

“I’ve Been There” and “The Summit” show more tenderness, leaning into emo / Soundcloud rap elements and driven by clean guitar and piano. On “I’ve Been There,” Silvertone affirms his support for the song’s subject, “I know it’s hard to leave your bed sometimes with the trouble on your mind / The world can bring you down /  It’s true and unfair / Trust me babe, I’ve been there.”

Keen to avoid a sophomore slump, Silvertone was intent on taking lessons from the making of his debut album, Insomnia: This has been a labor of love, a journey that has pushed me to my creative limits and allowed me to pour over my work,” he said of Nocturnal.

Ultimately, Silvertone pulls from influences across the genre map to synthesize his signature alt-pop-R&B sound and immerse listeners in Nocturnal

His music contains many references to pop culture, particularly from the 1990s and early 2000s.

Danny is a musician from an especially eclectic background. The Phoenix local was born in 1997 to a Black mother and Japanese father. He has been noted for saying the culture fusion he grew up in deeply inspires music even today, citing artists such as Black Sabbath and Michael Jackson as some of his earliest influences. He also has taken to social media several times to credit films such as “GHOST IN THE SHELL” and “THE MATRIX” for his love of alternative music and media.

He’s gone on record to state multiple times that the passing of his father in 2008 inspired him to make the most of his own life by pursuing his passions. In 2018-2020 he fronted the alternative rock / hyperpop band KURU before leaving to pursue other projects.
