Culann release new E.P ‘Songs of Saints & Reivers’
Winners of ‘Best Rock/Alternative’ at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards, Culann have been mastering their craft for many years and have built a loyal fanbase throughout the country, including performing around the Scottish festival circuit, multiple sellouts of Glasgow’s King Tuts, and performing at the iconic Barrowland Ballroom.
The norms of traditional song writing are largely abandoned with complex breaks, time changes and a perfect fusion of a traditional Scottish sound with a contemporary lyrical approach. No effort is made to fit the mould of what is out there now, quite the opposite. Every effort is made to create something raw, honest, heartfelt and emotive in every track.
‘Songs of Saints & Reivers’ leads an exciting new chapter for the band.
Written in the lockdowns of the last few years, the band have focused all their energy on creating 4 new songs, all unique to each other yet still maintains the definitive Culann sound running through each piece.
It reiterates how much the band love creating music together. It was recorded away in the idyllic Watercolour Studios in the Scottish highlands and mastered by the legendary Jon Astley (The Who, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones) at ‘Close to the edge’
The ethos of the band is to pour everything they have into their music & ‘Songs of Saints & Reiver’s showcases some of the most personal songs Culann have ever released.
Singer PJ Kelly comments “These are some of the most personal songs we’ve ever written, it’s sometimes difficult to be so open when writing lyrics but it felt the right thing to do with this EP. It all came about naturally & it felt like a natural progression from where we were before. It means everything to us that we get to share this new music now”.
