Craig McMorrow and Colin Andrew blend indie-folk and country with collaborative single Not Okay

Celebrated Irish singer-songwriters Craig McMorrow and Colin Andrew have joined forces on a special collaborative single, Not Okay, set for release on Friday 24 November.

The powerful partnership, marking a unique and one-time alliance between two independent artists, combines the pair’s indie-folk and country music styles to create a catchy, thought-provoking track that touches on themes of friendship, mental health, and self-reflection.

Not Okay was born during one of Edinburgh-based Craig and London-based Colin's regular writing sessions. The song explores a scenario where someone turns to a friend in times of need, only to receive advice that serves the friend's interests more than their own. The single delves deep into the complexities of modern relationships and offers a compelling narrative to which many are sure to relate.

With a sound that is reminiscent of the likes of Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan, who are among many reviving the modern country genre in recent years, Craig and Colin’s combined talents shine on the track, making it a must-listen – for fans of the artists and of the genre as a whole.

Craig McMorrow said: “Not Okay is more than just a song; it's a heartfelt conversation about mental health, particularly men's, and the significance of being there for one another. In a time where speaking about these topics is more vital than ever, our single aims to shed light on the struggles many face. We've channelled our passion for music into a narrative that will hopefully resonate with people from all walks of life.”

Colin Andrew added: “Releasing this single is an exciting step for us, and we're thrilled to be collaborating after playing together informally for many years. We’ve combined our styles in a way which I think gives the track a unique and compelling sound, and I hope others feel the same.”

Originally from Leitrim, Ireland, Craig McMorrow has been creating, recording and performing music for years, recently transitioning from a pop-folk sound to a country-focussed style of writing. Craig has played on many large stages throughout Europe and America, sharing the stage with acts such as Ryan McMullan, Foy Vance, Mec Lir and many more. He also was a contestant on The Voice of Ireland in 2014, making the live shows.

Colin Andrew, who hails from Ireland’s County Kerry, has honed his musical style through live performances, international residencies and TV appearances since 2012. The singer-songwriter has roots in indie, folk and traditional Irish music, all of which inform his distinct sound and honest lyrics. Colin’s captivating, high-energy performances over the past decade have earned him a reputation as a diligent and committed artist. A striking presence on the London music scene, Andrew released his debut, self-titled EP in July of this year, his most personal and engaging work yet.

Not Okay was mixed, mastered and produced by Barry O’Connell at Studio 42 in Edinburgh. Barry also plays guitar, bass, keys on the track, with Steve Morrison playing the drums.

The single will be available to download and stream on all major platforms on Friday 24 November 2023.
