Coughin’ Vicars Nod To Local Time Slip Legend On New Single ‘Rips of Rain’
Liverpool DIY punks Coughin’ Vicars are pleased to reveal their new single ‘Rips of Rain’, released 12th June 2024 via Venn Records.
Another rugged slice of ‘80s infused punk from the Scouse quintet, the new single is a nod to the local paranormal legend of the Bold Street ‘timeslip’ in Liverpool, and is situated in the rain-soaked drift home where all time and logic are lost, and transcendental navigation takes over.
“I’ve walked and worked on the street for many years and I’m convinced this is a genuine phenomenon,” says vocalist Roman Remains. “In a certain sense this song is an effort to arrange all the layered complexities that thrive in the headspace between infamous Liverpool rock pub The Swan’s jukebox and the last order bell.”
“‘Rips of Rain’ is about all the thoughts that go through your mind whilst killing time embarking on impulsive inner city walks in our island’s most guaranteed weather condition. It’s fists clenched in jacket pockets. A march into a headwind song. The kind of rain that stains your socks, but gives your mission purpose—it allows you to think way beyond the comforts of domestic life. Ghosts, ambitions, visions, fears, regrets, and by the end of it hopefully fulfilment and conclusion.”
Coughin’ Vicars signed to Venn Records last month and will release their new album Curses & Prayers on 26th July 2024, with ‘Rips of Rain’ following on from lead single ‘Until The Feeling Turns Cold’ released last month to support from Kerrang! Magazine, Vive Le Rock, VISIONS Magazine, The Punk Site and more.
Produced by the band’s own Adam Clarkson (guitar) in Vagrant Studios, Southport during Oct/Nov 2023, the album was mixed by Coughin’ Vicars and mastered by Piers Mortimer (Robert Fripp, Creedence Clearwater), featuring composer/saxophonist Daniel Thorne (Erased Tapes) on ‘The Reach’.
Fresh from supporting legendary punk bassist Mike Watt (The Stooges, Minutemen, Dos, Firehose) in Liverpool, the band will be appearing at Swine Fest, Leodis Requiem Fest, and Rebellion Festival this summer, with details of a secret album release show on 26th July to be revealed (see below for listings).
