Vancouver, BC — Chronic Fatigue, Vancouver’s emerging powerhouse in the punk scene, announces the self-release of their second EP, Surrender To Serenity, dropping on November 15th, 2024. Known for their high-octane performances and raw punk ethos, Chronic Fatigue takes a bold sonic leap with this self-produced release, blending their punk roots with influences from post-punk, metal, and experimental hip-hop to create a uniquely immersive sound.
Surrender To Serenity marks a milestone for Chronic Fatigue, as they delve deeper into collaboration and genre experimentation. Inspired by frontman Sam Patterson’s deep-seated passion for artists like JPEGMAFIA, Danny Brown, and Death Grips, the EP combines driving punk energy with hip-hop’s rhythmic intensity, infusing the tracks with a punchy, layered sound. "We wanted to create something that feels alive and lets each member’s personality shine through," says Patterson. "Bringing in elements of hip-hop felt natural because it’s part of who I am musically."
The EP’s four songs capture the fervor and spontaneity of Chronic Fatigue’s live shows, celebrated across Vancouver for their kinetic energy and interactive crowd dynamics. Tracks range from introspective to wildly fun, with fast-paced punk grooves and powerful vocal lines that demand attention. Bassist Dylan Bondy, guitarist Sean Wilson, and drummer Quinn Letendre join Patterson in delivering a sound that’s equal parts gritty and polished, with the distinct vibe of a high-energy live performance.
Adding to the EP’s unique flavor, Chronic Fatigue drew inspiration from skate culture, a theme that finds perfect expression in their music video for the track “Serenity.” Shot in classic skate video style, the band collaborated with local skaters Dashell Willborn and Sean Pearson to capture a raw, nostalgic feel that recalls iconic skate tapes like Baker 3 and Yeah Right! “Our videographer, Liam Tait, introduced us to the world of old-school skate videos, and it clicked,” shares Letendre. “Punk and skate culture share this vibe of being outsiders just trying to have a good time.” The music video sees the skaters tearing up Vancouver with a camcorder in tow, adding a vibrant, gritty layer to Chronic Fatigue’s already dynamic sound.
Known for their unforgettable live performances, Chronic Fatigue continues to cement their status as one of Vancouver’s most thrilling acts. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for upcoming live shows, where they can experience the blistering energy of Surrender To Serenity up close and personal.
“I had a blast making this. I told the skaters after the shoot, ‘any time you guys wanna do this again, I’ll just drive you around the city all day and film and watch you skate. Seriously.’ I loved it. It was great to really jump into that subculture for a bit, just hanging around the skate park and giving each other the business. I think the video reflects how much fun we had.”
