Chris Blackwood Releases Third Studio Album: “Tantalus Unbound”
UK-based indie singer-songwriter Chris Blackwood today releases his long-awaited third album, Tantalus Unbound — a sweeping, poetic meditation on grief, desire, and the struggle for transcendence. The album arrives following the critically praised singles Tantalus and Daytime TV, and marks Blackwood’s most ambitious and thematically rich work to date.
Rooted in Greek mythology yet deeply personal, Tantalus Unbound reimagines the tortured figure of Tantalus as a modern man trapped in cycles of longing and self-sabotage. Through immersive textures, melancholic melodies, and raw lyrical introspection, the album follows a journey from punishment toward catharsis — from bound limbs to liberated voice.
“You’re wasting your life / Why don’t you do / What you’re dreaming of...”
Fusing influences from art rock, post-punk, and indie folk, the album evokes a unique sonic world — blending swirling celeste, distorted guitar, and delicate piano motifs with stark, emotionally charged vocals. It’s a record that moves between restraint and rupture, intimacy and epic scope.
The project was written, performed, and produced by Blackwood himself, with mastering by Jasper Ward and a striking visual direction inspired by both mythological symbolism and DIY ethos.
Album Launch Show
To celebrate the release, Blackwood will perform a full-band headline show at Headrow House, Leeds, on Friday 18th April, joined by special guests The Calls.
