Canadian Rock Band Redpath Traffic Releases New Single, "Dundas Square"

About Redpath Traffic

Redpath Traffic was formed in 2017 by Richard Todd (guitars and vocals), Mark Fernley (bass), and Kerem Balci (drums). They played select shows in Toronto while focusing on recording eight original songs with legendary multi-award-winning producer Chris Birkett.

From the catchy pop-punk tune “Hey Mona!” to the soulful “So Alive” and the hypnotic, earth-shattering epic “California Sunshine”, Redpath Traffic achieved over 75,000 streams in 2023. This phase of the band’s career culminated with the release of their album, Under the Crimson Sun.

Also in 2023, Redpath Traffic welcomed their new drummer, Jim Medley, launching a new era in studio recordings and live performances. Their upbeat, foot-stomping stage show is full of high-energy music that crosses generational lines and leaves voices hoarse from shouting along.

Their new music includes the holiday rocker “Baby, It’s Christmastime!” and the Celtic waltz “Desert Rose”. Their newest song, the 80s-style rock hit “Dundas Square”, was released on August 13, 2024.

ABOUT THE SONG: “Dundas Square”

“Toronto needed a song! There aren’t a lot of songs about Toronto, or that even mention it in passing, so what’s better than creating a catchy rock song about the area of the city where you’re right in the mix of it all.

It’s changed a lot over the years, but in the 70s and 80s it was at the bottom of an area known as the Yonge Street Strip – a name well-earned! Crazy days but crazy fun that still goes on to this day if you know where to find it.

Yes, there’s a controversy going on currently about the name Dundas. We’re not saying change the name and we’re not saying don’t change it. Our point is that you can change the name, but that’s all that will change. You won’t change the culture, you won’t change the people, you change the area’s characteristics, you certainly won’t change history, and people will continue to call it Dundas Square anyway

Like the lyrics go, “You can change the name, it’ll always be the same”.
