Buxton-Based Troubadour Isaac Neilson Returns With Soaring New Single 'Flying'

Though it’s been a year since previous single ‘Dead Set Dance’, Isaac Neilson has turned his pen to a series of new offerings, ready to perform around the country. Emerging from 2023, it’s clear that Neilson has hit his stride as a songwriter, having reached the semi-finals of the International Songwriting Competition, as well as being long-listed for the Music Producer’s Guild “Self-Producing Artist of the Year”.

Having now unearthed the foundations of his own voice, Isaac has gone from the relative safety of bedroom production, to sharing festival stages with the likes of Jake Bugg, Stereophonics and The Human League. It isn’t just on stage Neilson has impressed however, with previous singles having earned him lofty praise from tastemakers such as BBC's Dean Jackson, RGM, and Right Chord Music.

Not one to rest on his laurels though, Isaac Neilson is kickstarting 2024 with the release of forthcoming single ‘Flying’. Mired in doubt, yearning for lucidity, it’s a track in perpetual conflict with itself, as Neilson explores the suicidal thought through the lens of escapism, wrestling with ideas about mental health through a window of impermanence.

“The lyric ‘All is fleeting nothing’s gonna break me down’ encapsulates the whole track”, Neilson explains. “ Musically it was a conscious effort to incorporate more grunge elements into my sound, pushing the genre into a more delicate direction; the soft piano acting as the antithesis to the raw vocal intensity and the growling guitars that backbone the track”

Isaac Neilson will celebrate the release of ‘Flying’ with a hometown single launch at the Ale Stop in Buxton Derbyshire on 26th January.
