Broken Biscuit Company, the exciting new artist project of bassist and singer Jack Tustin, marks the release of his new single ‘Q&A’ with the full release of his debut EP Million Small Beginnings, as well as the announcement of his first ever headline show - at London’s The Grace on February 2nd.
Following his fantastic track ‘Primrose Hill’ back in August, new track ‘Q&A’ is a laid-back, feel-good offering through an optimistic lens tinged with English wit and colloquialism.
Jack explains; “‘Q&A’ was written for a girl I matched with on hinge. She was in another city and, getting carried away as I often do, I wrote her a song before we’d even met in person. She was an architect and, doing separate creative jobs in different cities, I pictured the parallels of our lives side by side and dreamed of how they might come together.”
Having played upright and electric bass with the likes of HAIM, Matilda Mann and Self Esteem, Jack adopted the moniker after winning his category of the UK Songwriting Contest 2022 in order to distinguish his work as an artist from his established career as a session musician. Jack grew up playing in rock bands, rehearsing in his friend’s attic, to winning a scholarship to study jazz at both Royal Academy and Guildhall School of Music.
His debut offerings ‘Million Small Beginnings’, ‘Stunt Double’ & ‘Primrose Hill’ all arrived as a statement of intent - a chaotic explosion of optimism and a depiction of loud dreams in a busy mind, making up the perfect debut EP.
“For me ‘Million Small Beginnings’ documents a few of the hurdles I’ve encountered and overcome while coming of age in a big city since moving to London from the countryside,” Jack further details. “The stem cell phase of life, my early twenties, was both a vibrant and daunting time for me, and Million Small Beginnings hopes to address the big themes that characterised that: ambition and heartache.”
It’s just the start for the Cambridge-born artist who’s finally craving his own creative outlet.
