Bradford Band Drella Release New Single ‘Guillotine’ and Play Hometown Headline Show Tonight!

“An incendiary new band from Bradford” - Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music

“They make me want to mosh and get proper feral!” - Alyx Holcombe, BBC Radio 1

“The political bleakness of our contemporary age affects almost everyone… Drella are here to give  a voice to that fury and show us that we’re together in our isolation” - Poppy Bristow, Fresh on the  Net

Following a whirlwind 2023, which included a UK tour, a slot at a major UK festival and radio plays  on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 6 Music, Bradford alternative rock trio Drella have announced the  details of their next single, ‘Guillotine’. The track will be released on Friday 22nd March and can  be pre-saved here

‘Guillotine’ is a satirical exploration of contemporary British politics and its disconnect from the  general population. Whilst the lyrics rightfully take aim at politicians for supporting spending cuts

and scapegoating immigrants, their witty and clever nature invites a refreshing sense of humour  into a serious issue.

“There is a disconnect between politicians and the general population and many people in the UK  feel like politicians no longer represent them or their communities” explains frontman Jonathan  Whyatt. “You don’t have to be politically active to know that there is a problem; the rich are  getting richer whilst many of us are struggling through a cost of living crisis. Politicians should be  called out for supporting policies that put profit ahead of ordinary people and ‘Guillotine’ does this  in a witty and humorous way”.

Another product from the bands collaboration with Ady Hall and Lee McCarthy of Sugar House  Music (Corella, VENUS GRRRLS, Viola Beach), the song contains many aspects that have  become characteristic of Drella’s sound; a crunching guitar hook, a melodic baseline and a  thunderous drumbeat, as well as lyrics that are loud enough for the rioters and sharp enough for  the deep thinkers.

The single will be accompanied by a music video which feeds off the humorous nature of the  lyrics, as Jonathan explains; “there’s a couple of quite cheeky one liners in the lyrics and we  always chuckle when playing this song live. We wanted the music video to reflect this, to poke fun  at the people in power”.

Drella will be promoting the single with a hometown headline show at The Underground in  Bradford, where they will be joined by Sheffield post punk band ‘Django Jones and The Mystery  Men’, London based ‘Lunch’ and Halifax’s ‘Casino Havana’. Tickets can be purchased here.

About Drella: Using music and activism to fight against the economic struggles facing their  hometown of Bradford, Drella combine politicised lyrics with gritty guitar riffs, catchy bass lines  and thunderous drums to deliver their brand of politically charged alternative rock.
