Bonner Black Releases Debut Album ‘Hopeless RomANTICS’

Nashville based indie pop singer/songwriter Bonner Black is setting a marker with the release of her much anticipated debut full-length studio album ‘Hopeless RomANTICS’ with the record dropping February 13, just in time for Valentines Day.

The 9 track record is a testament of the hard work and determination that has spearheaded Bonner Black’s career in Nashville where she’s spent the last decade perfecting her craft as an artist. A watercolor painting of charmingly bright acoustics, driven retro pop groovers, and timeless straight forward “Music City Storytelling” the overall sound of ‘Hopeless RomANTICS’ is distinctively Bonner Black with its fresh, innovative and playful style.

There's something truly soothing about the soft vocal control that the Hot Rock, TN  native delivers her enriching lyrics with, but there's a strength buried beneath and her true storyteller soul is on full show throughout the entire LP.

Bonner Black is one of those rare talents who is able to write powerful and personal tracks that are distinctively hers, yet somehow transcend and create relatable narratives that listeners instantly connect with, and each and every song on the ‘Hopeless RomANTICS’ tracklist is superbly crafted with each track telling its own tale, weaved together to create the bigger story that takes the listener on a journey of Bonner’s life story to date.

While kick starting an acoustic tour through the midwest, Black released a string of singles over the summer of 2023 which secured over 140K new streams, editorial placements like, “Fresh Finds Pop”, and “Next Gen- Singer Songwriter”, and airplay on Lightning 100 and Nada Taha’s Apple Music Radio show. The entirety of the album was written by Bonner Black and producer, Jake Ohlbaum (The Foxies, Katie Pruitt, Joy Oladokun )with two of the tracks, ‘Take Me On’ and ‘Either Way’, being solo writes.

Speaking about the album, Bonner Black states: “I didn’t set out to write an album. I was just writing songs and then one day Jake goes, “Dude, let’s turn this into a project .” I said, “okay we’ll do eight”. We ended up recording nine. I listened to them over the course of the next few weeks whilst running errands, working out, cleaning my bathroom, sitting in traffic, walking through the park, and I even listened to them whilst I was waiting at baggage claim.. The album is from the perspective of my imaginative idealistic, overly ambitious true self. These songs are the product of my brain observing my heart with it even knowing it was being watched”

Bonner Black, the classically trained ballerina turned singer/songwriter from Hot Rock, TN, began her life on stage at 4 years old. In her early teen years, she taught herself to play guitar on YouTube and, by the time she was in 9th grade, she was writing and performing in Nashville 3 to 5 days per week, made possible by homeschooling. At seventeen, Black moved to Nashville to continue honing her craft and embarked on her first regional tour throughout the Southeast. During that time, Black participated in four lobbying trips with NSAI to Washington, DC to advocate for songwriters and copyright law reform. In 2016, she was awarded the Artist Entrepreneur Award by The Oxford Center of Entrepreneurs at The Times Center in New York City. With over 500 shows under her belt, she has opened for acts like The Bellamy Brothers, Charlie Daniels, and The Band Perry, and has been a regular at Nashville's most popular songwriter venues, The Bluebird Cafe and The Listening Room.

Today, her music springs from many facets like rainbows of light and color showcasing her Southern roots blended with catchy melodies and lyrics. As an independent artist, Black has amassed over 423.6k streams across all platforms while cultivating an enthusiastic and engaged fan base and online community. Her Debut EP, ‘Out Of Dreams’, was released May 6th, 2022 and tells stories of lost love with sharp lyrics overlaying sweet melodies. “Light Me Up” landed on Spotify’s Today’s Singer-Songwriter playlist, was featured on People.com, and is her most streamed single to date. ‘Midnight Blue’ brought about Black’s first Apple Music playlists with New In Singer-Songwriter and Breaking Singer/Songwriter. Both of these songs, as well as ‘The Old Way’ were also featured by renowned Indie tastemaker, Alex Rainbird.

2023 saw her touring the Southeast and Midwest, with four new singles, ‘Breaking A Sweat’, ‘Take Me On’, ‘Catch 22’, and ’I’m Not Your Girl’ gaining traction on Nashville’s #1 independent radio station, Lightning 100 and more editorial placement like Fresh Finds Pop and Next Gen Singer-Songwriter. Anticipation now surrounds her highly awaited debut album, ‘Hopeless RomANTICS’ set to release on February 13th, promising to be a testament to her evolution as an artist. Bonner Black stands as an embodiment of passion, resilience, and authenticity.
