Bobbyy is a producer, drummer and DJ based in Los Angeles. Known for his work with the acclaimed US West Coast experimental jazz collective High Pulp, as well as the duo sunking, 2024 sees Bobbyy stepping out as a solo artist. His debut album, ‘Buckets’, out today, incorporates elements of Chicago House a la Larry Heard, alongside raw, sample-based production reminiscent of Madlib or Daedelus.

A video for the song ‘It Knows The Bliss Is Treacherous’ has been made available to coincide. The Stranger magazine describes the track as “reflecting his knack for engendering keyboard swirls beneath sensuous, intricate beats. Sly seduction is the overarching theme here and elsewhere on ‘Buckets’, where whispers resonate harder than screams and every rhythm beckons you to the bedroom. If you can't get laid to this foxy, fusion-y music, it's not Bobbyy's fault.” A remix of the song by Galcher Lustwerk will also be issued in the coming weeks.

The album has also been preceded by two singles. The mutedly radiant ‘I Was At The Fence’ proves that Bobbyy can do R&B too, and is bolstered by a hushed, pretty vocal by Rachel Lime. Its follow-up, ‘Thence I Arrived On A Foreign Shore’, glazes and blazes with sotto-voce, raunchy raps by Pink Siifu & Stas THEE Boss. They bless a track inspired by ’90s Chicago House with modern syrup-dripped synthesisers, its laidback vibe heralding the arrival of summer.

With thanks to Dave Segal@The Stranger for quote and other pilfered text.
