black midi will play a surprise set at The Quietus' 15th Birthday Gig on Tuesday, 5 September at London’s Electric Brixton.
Lankum and caroline will also make an appearence at the show presented by Rough Trade Records.
The band have joined their labelmates for the show which will both celebrate and raise funds for the much-loved, alternative music publication.
All three acts were personally invited to make an appearance at The Quietus' 15th Birthday Party gig by Rough Trade Records' Jeannette Lee and Geoff Travis after the pair decided to organise a show that would not only celebrate the title’s vital contribution to alternative music, but will raise revenue to help secure The Quietus’ long-term future in an increasingly turbulent media landscape.
“We love reading the Quietus. It is a hugely important site of music writing. We can’t afford to live without it,” they explained. “When we heard that it was undergoing financial difficulties, we just wanted to help. By putting on a night of music to raise some money for them with the very generous help of some amazing artists, we thought that would help. See you there!”
Looking ahead to their unique birthday party, The Quietus’ co-founders John Doran and Luke Turner thanked Jeannette Lee and Geoff Travis for the contribution Rough Trade Records were making, recognising the positive impact the gig will have on The Quietus' long term financial wellbeing.
“Over the past 15 years, we at The Quietus have written and published countless words on Rough Trade artists past and present, had our minds melted at their gigs, and in 2022 made Jockstrap's debut, I Love You Jennifer B, our Album Of The Year,” they declared.
“We're therefore honoured that Geoff, Jeannette and all the good people of Rough Trade Records have stepped in to support us and that some of our favourite acts of recent times have agreed to play. We can't think of a better way to celebrate our birthday.”
