Bad Year Release New Album 'Moancore'
FFO: Screeching Weasel, Green Day, The Descendents
The debut full album from long-standing Glasgow punk band Bad Year was released on August 2nd, 2024, digitally and on a limited-run tape cassette through Cats Claw Records. CD releases were handled by Punk Rock Radar (US) and Bite These Records (UK).
The album has caught the attention of punk fans worldwide, showcasing the band's evolution in both sound and songwriting.
Key tracks include the ripper “Nutmilk Soup,” a 1-minute-and-21-second burst of fast, melodic angst aimed at the powers that be in the punk scene. “Comin’ Up Milhouse” reflects on addiction and the struggle to get better, all while delivering a bouncy, infectious feel. “Never Need Another Friend” will leave you in a puddle of tears, questioning why you ever fell out with anyone.
Drawing inspiration from different stages of the band’s career, the album blends fast and slow, melodic and super melodic, with songs that range from upbeat to deeply emotional.
ABOUT THE BAND
Bad Year has been writing and jamming since 2016, with members from Scottish punk bands like Dead Beat Heroes, The Lemonaids, and The Kimberly Steaks. Playing snotty, melodic punk inspired by Green Day, Screeching Weasel, and The Descendents, they’ve been active in Glasgow's small punk scene, playing shows across the country.
Ross Steak – Drums: Known for his fast, tight playing, Ross keeps the band glued together. He also plays with The Kimberly Steaks and The Lemonaids.
Gittens – Lead Guitar: With influences from technical acts like Propagandhi and Gojira, Gittens brings infectious riffs and a smile to every show.
Chrissy G – Bass/Vocals: Frontman with catchy basslines and a willingness to down everyone’s pints. Inspired by Matt Freeman (Rancid) and Karl Alvarez (Descendents), Chrissy enjoys screaming his sadness at people in the hopes they will feed him.
