Following on from recent single ‘Hold On’, the new single is a heartfelt expression of frontman Jacko’s journey through a recent tragic event and a beautiful reminder to hold your loved ones close. Speaking on the new single, Jacko explains: “I wrote this song soon after my sister Brin passed away. It’s really just me working through the plethora of emotions that I’ve experienced – the heartache, the longing, the helplessness, the self doubt, the denial – they’re all there. Wanting to be there for my family and friends, and just having to feel it all while also pushing through the normal day-to-day. The lyric “stay the same” refers to the idea of keeping Brin’s spirit alive and remembering her for how she was, forever 28.”

The official video was shot with the band’s long-term creative ally and video director, Luke Dunning. Speaking to the inspiration behind the video, Jacko explains that the band “[w]anted to film this video somewhere that we spent time at during our childhood, and eventually decided on the waterfront of our hometown Redland Bay. We grew up riding our push bikes along that beautiful stretch, so we pulled our mates in to play various characters, which was really special.” (Directed by Luke Dunning; Produced by Beddy Rays)

After a hugely successful tour supporting Dune Rats across many cities throughout the UK and Europe in 2023, Beddy Rays will be returning to UK/EU shores in May 2025 (tour dates to be announced shortly).

BACKGROUND

Beddy Rays started making music together soon after they forged a friendship on their primary school oval back in the day. The release of weekend anthem Sobercoaster in 2020 really started shaking things up for these fun-loving larrikins. The cracker of a tune has now received Gold certification, amassed over 15 million streams and echoed throughout backyards of Australia during triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2020.

Their highly anticipated and fully independent debut album was released in July 2022 and achieved #1 Vinyl and #2 Australian Album on the ARIA charts, as well securing the band a 'Breakthrough Artist' nomination at the 2022 ARIA Awards, marking a major milestone in the band’s career. The success of the album's lead single Handful further cemented the four-piece as one of the country’s most beloved bands, securing them their second appearance in the triple j Hottest 100.

The band’s achievements don’t stop there. With multiple nominations at the Queensland Music Awards and National Indigenous Music Awards, and as winners of the Levi’s Music Prize, their talent and energy continue to gain well-deserved recognition. Their powerful rendition of Thelma Plum’s ‘Better in Blak’ for triple j's Like A Version added another memorable moment to their repertoire.

Known for their electrifying live performances, Beddy Rays have lit up hundreds of stages across Australia in recent years, including prime festival slots at Falls Festival, Spilt Milk, Splendour in the Grass, and Play on the Plains.

These days it’s almost impossible not to recognise a Beddys track, as their music has become a carefully curated recipe involving all the right ingredients: heartfelt lyrics, huge hooks, mosh-worthy riffs and a lingering sense of comradery and good vibes that underpins everything they create.
