Today, Mexico City-based experimental collective Amor Muere, made up of Mabe Fratti, Gibrana Cervantes, Concepción Huerta, and Camille Mandoki, unveil the second single to be shared from their highly anticipated debut album A time to love, a time to die due out November 3rd via Scrawl (FKA SA Recordings) (home to NOK Cultural Ensemble, Lea Bertucci, Nyokabi Kariũki, Mabe Fratti and Damsel Elysium).
Amor Muere's upcoming album, has been hailed by Pitchfork as one of the most anticipated albums for fall, as well as already receiving widespread support from the music press, also being championed by Resident Advisor, Brooklyn Vegan, Loud & Quiet, BBC Radio 6, NTS and many more with their lead single 'Love Dies'.
Today's release of their latest single 'LA' offers a captivating blend of cello, violin, vocals and electronic elements. The composition is anchored in the dynamic interplay between Gibrana's violin and Mabe's cello, with Camille and Concepción creating a mesmerising contrast and complementation between the acoustic and their electronic wizardry.
Amor Muere reflect on the single:
“We had been playing it like this live for a while until we went to the studio and came up with the idea of making it more asymmetrical. We pet-named this song ‘La espiritual’ and ended up calling it ‘LA’. In the second part of the song, the ensemble grows and behaves like waves of sound that grow and respond to each other, creating a stronger sense of resonance amidst the chaos.”
Their forthcoming album A time to love, a time to die marks the arrival of Amor Muere, a musical force driven by genuine camaraderie, profound artistry, and a fearless exploration of sonic boundaries. As listeners immerse themselves in the captivating sounds of Amor Muere, they will embark on a journey where love and mortality intersect a moving display of creative prowess.
The album came to life in the serene landscapes of La Pitaya in Zoncuantla, a forested haven where two of the band members resided and where the others frequently visited. It was then recorded in Camille’s home studio in Zoncuantla, Veracruz and produced collaboratively by all four members of the quartet, valuing each person’s input. These intimate settings allowed Amor Muere to have full artistic control over the sonic tapestry they wished to weave. The album’s fusion of cello, electronics, vocals, and violin showcases each artist's mastery of their craft, reaching sublime and transcendent heights.
The new album of Amor Muere, is the first project to be released on brand new independent record label Scrawl World Ltd aka Scrawl. The label is a London-based independent record label and music platform for unruly music, founded by Harriet Pittard. Having previously run the successful experimental London label SA Recordings, (Nyokabi Kariũki, Nok Cultural Ensemble, Yair Elazar Glotman, London Contemporary Orchestra, Tara Clerkin Trio, Damel Elysium, Lea Bertucci) Pittard now runs Scrawl independently whilst continuing to work with selected artists from the former SA Recordings roster including NOK Cultural Ensemble, Lea Bertucci, Nyokabi Kariũki, Mabe Fratti and Damsel Elysium.
