Amelie Lucille Unveils Heartfelt New Single ‘Starts with Us’
New York-based singer-songwriter Amelie Lucille, a 16-year-old rising talent, has released her deeply personal new single, ‘Starts with Us.’ Known for her emotionally rich voice and storytelling prowess that belies her age, Amelie continues to make waves with music that feels raw, relatable, and mature beyond her years.
‘Starts with Us’ is one of Amelie's most vulnerable works to date. The track delves into the painful realisation of always being the second choice in a relationship, encapsulated in the poignant lyric, “Even when it starts with us, it's always gonna end with her.” Written during a challenging time, Amelie sought to bring clarity to a complicated situation through the simplicity of heartfelt words and stripped-back production.
Speaking about the song, Amelie shared: “I loved how simple but (hopefully) effective the production turned out to be, and I really hope this song resonates with you in whatever way you understand it.”
The track features elegant contributions from violinist Carolin Pook and pianist Innes Yellowlees, with Amelie herself on guitar. The production, co-led by Joel Arnow and notcharles, leans into its indie-pop and adult contemporary roots, crafting a sound that is intimate and evocative.
Amelie Lucille’s musical journey began at just seven years old when she started piano lessons, a Christmas gift that ignited her passion for songwriting. Inspired by artists like Etta James, Björk, Norah Jones, and The Beatles, she developed a unique style blending emotional depth with melodic sophistication.
A student at the renowned LaGuardia High School, Amelie released her self-titled debut album in 2023 at the age of 14, marking the beginning of her professional career. ‘Starts with Us’ is her fourth single and a testament to her artistic growth.
In addition to her recorded work, Amelie is a frequent performer at iconic New York venues, including The Bitter End, where she continues to refine her craft in front of live audiences. With her latest release, she solidifies her position as one of the most exciting young voices in indie pop.
