Alcopop! Records are delighted to announce the launch of their new children’s music imprint, Pandapop! Records, with the news that they have signed CBeebies star YUKEE.

To celebrate the news, Yukee’s debut single ‘Fly Away Feathers’ (featuring Rivers Cuomo of rock titans Weezer) is out today and available to stream on all good DSPs.

With the addition of Cuomo as guest vocalist, the song layers light melodies and catchy hooks under dreamy lyrics, with a touch of wistfulness reminiscent of the classic Weezer sound. The debut single on Pandapop! Records, ‘Fly Away Feathers’ is also available on very, very limited clear 5” vinyl (little records for little hands), with a lot, LOT more to come from the label.

A brand new music-first preschool series created by musicians for musicians of the future, Yukee is distributed by Aardman, with the 52 x 7 animated series available on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer.

Voiced by Newtownbutler, Northern Ireland child actor Nina He, Yukee offers young audiences a gentle, child-centred introduction to music and exposes them to simple, yet fundamental musical concepts that form a strong foundation for life-long learning. Yukee has community, friendship and cooperation at its heart, because after all—things sound better when we play together!

The show’s star-studded guest cast has helped introduce young audiences to a myriad of genre, instrumentation, performance and style. With powerful vocalists (Sam Carter from Architects, PP Arnold, Chali 2na), outstanding instrumentalists (Dame Evelyn Glennie, Femi and TJ of the Ezra Collective), esteemed songwriters (Tom Odell, Maisie Peters, Rhian and Hester of Wet Leg) and of course, much-loved BBC Radio 6music DJ Lauren Laverne, each guest has offered something unique and special to Yukee.

Via Instagram reels, Maisie Peters tells fans that her guest episode is “...so so cute, I can’t wait for you to see it! Highlight of my life!”.

The podcast adaptations, Yukee’s Musical Adventures, are also narrated by a very special guest voice; BBC 6 Music presenter and Elbow frontman Guy Garvey. The first 12 episodes of the podcast are available now on BBC Sounds.

“Last May, my partner Rhi and I had a baby called Talon and, as you’d expect, he’s absolutely changed the way we think about everything,” says label manager Jack Clothier of the news. “So began our voyage with Yukee. CBeebies transcends kids stuff—Idles have played Hey Duggee’s Stick Song live at Glastonbury. Stormzy, Kylie and Frank Black amongst others have read the Bedtime Story, and in amongst all this gold, a true diamond sparkles every day…Yukee. The story of a little girl, her Ukulele and a non-stop garden party with all of her friends!”

“Talon was transfixed. We were transfixed. Then, in one of the very first episodes I watched I was like ‘I’m sure I recognise that pigeon’s voice’. Turns out it was Rivers from Weezer. Then I heard Lauren Laverne. Wet Leg. Sam Carter from Architects. This show was absolutely STACKED with contemporary pop icons. So, we chatted to the team who made it, forged some plans, and had some ideas, and basically got ourselves so excited we had to have a little lie down.”

Worried that the Alcopop! brand name may not be entirely suitable for this youthful new audience, the label put the wheels in motion on new imprint Pandapop!’, and asked someone very special to run it…

“Which is how our son Talon Ashley Crocodile Clothier Jones ended up the world’s youngest record label boss at 21 months,” enthuses Clothier, “signing a big TV show, putting out a single with special guest Rivers Cuomo, sending the Yukee squad on a huge (soon to be announced) tour of schools, festivals and theatres across the UK…and loving every minute of it. He needs a little help with the finances to be fair, but if record labels are run on passion, enthusiasm, and belief alone (which, to be fair, is not far off how Kev and I have tried to run Alcopop! for the last 15 years) he’s already the best in the business!”

Further new music, live dates, and news from Yukee will be released over the coming weeks.
