ALBUM REVIEW: Sniffany & The Nits - The Unscratchable Itch

Sniffany & The Nits are a punk band from London, featuring members of Joanna Gruesome, Ex-Void and The Tubs. The Unscratchable Itch is an adrenaline-fueled rampage of majestically thrashing guitars, raggedly frantic drumbeats and neck-snapping stop-start dynamics. Knowingly short on melody and covered in sharp edges they may be, but they write decent songs.

On mid-album number, Clam Chowder, the ageing swinger couple in this character study are like something Ray Davies of The Kinks might have once dreamt up.

The sense that they are capable of moving forward and making an album that could be a real watershed recording is clear. This album feels more like a stepping stone to greater things, though.

It's just a furiously passionate album with a great big heart, if a bruised one, beating underneath it.

The Unscratchable Itch is OUT NOW!

Hey! I'm Ed, I'm 36, I live in the Bournemouth area, and I deliver local produce to people's doors.

I'm a mega music geek - pop/rock and indie is my favourite. I like a variety of genres from the '50s and '60s to the present-day. I adore the '90s, particularly Britpop.

I'm also passionate about film, books, history, and politics - I'm a member of The Labour Party.

I also love walking, holidays, going to the theatre, eating out, and I still enjoy festivals and parties every so often.

I support Sunderland A.F.C.

I have a cat named Sasha.

I run on strong coffee.
