ALBUM REVIEW: Prince Bishop - All is Due
Prince Bishop unleashes a barrage of macabre, heartfelt emotions on debut album "All Is Due".
The record is an epic out cry of passion and yearning, like a wounded soul laying themselves bare, pleading for healing. It's gut wrenching, heartbreaking and intense. It's a grand, impassioned and uneasy listen. From start to finish it takes you an unwinding journey into the deepest crevices of your being, it opens your eyes and engulfs your heart.
"All Is Due" is bursting with heavy riffs, magnificent guitars, bold, confident yet unpolished vocals and a deep, dark progressive sounds that build and mellow as the words plummet deeper into the abyss. The album borrows elements from alt rock, indie, shoegaze and metal moulding them together to form something that's so much more than a collection of songs. The band detail feelings of hopelessness, longing and the cycle of never ending nothingness. It's not about picking out a song or two to discuss or analysing a few lyrics, this record is about the flow of feelings not just based around any one aspect. The music is as harrowing as the words themselves.
From the moment the record kicks in with the haunting "The Ghost of Goodwill' you know you're in for a tumultuous ride. Hours after listening the way it made me feel is still playing on my mind, giving me an unnerving feeling of emptiness.
"All Is Due" is one of the most captivating, infectious records I've heard this year. There's so much beauty in the discomfort it causes the listener, it pierces through to your heart leaving you with more questions than answers. It's the type of record you have to give your full attention to, you need to fully immerse yourself in every word and every chord.
Prince Bishop have created an album of anthems for the broken, the lost and anyone battling their inner demons. It's truly magnificent.
