ALBUM REVIEW: Kate Havnevik - Lightship
Lightship is fantastic, from first listen it’s captivating and mesmerising. It’s deep and beautiful. Kate’s voice is stunning, so soft and gentle it drags you into each song making you feel like the music is a part of you. A times sounding Bjork esque but for the most part sounding like her own unique blend of dream pop mixed with a hint of electronica.
To me Lightship is how I would imagine the changing seasons to sound. The awakening sound of winter becoming spring, new life, new growth or darker sounds of summer becoming autumn, the greens changing to golden browns and oranges. The tranquillity I feel from listening to this album is indescribable, this isn’t simply a collection of ten songs its a whole whole host of feelings and emotions packaged into just over 30 minutes.
It's different, yet familiar. Comforting and uplifting. A truly stunning collection of songs that have inspired me to want to listen to more of Kate's work, with a career that spans more than two decades I am excited for what I will discover.
To give a special mention to Starlight Fires, the standout track of the album, its quiet and lo-if, the perfect song to get lost in your thoughts to.
Overall I can speak highly enough of this album, I recommend it to anyone who wants to take some time out to sit and quietly watch the world go by.
Lightship is out now.
