Electro-emo angst-pop trio AIR DRAWN DAGGER have released an alternative version of ‘GhostsGhostsGhosts (Phantoms)’, taken from their upcoming re-imagined EP ‘Songs To Fight The Gods To’, out 24th May via Silent Cult Records.
“This track is about the crippling disappointment of becoming an adult and the shortlived highs of achievement before the crash back down to earth. The feeling you get when "in the future when all is well" is your present moment but you're still just surviving, you're still moral, you're still you, and it's never enough. Getting everything you want and still feeling empty is far more terrifying than feeling downtrodden because you have nothing. In a more positive light, it's a commentary that hope is what really gets us through,” says guitarist Lewis.
‘GhostsGhostsGhosts (Phantoms)’ is the third acoustic track to be released from the upcoming re-imagined EP following the release of ‘Stigmata’ and ‘You Should Have Known Better’. “The original EP incorporates big guitar riffs, Hip Hop beats, synths and more. So now we get to explore the opposite elements and explore acoustic guitars, raw vocals, and string arrangements to breathe new life into these songs. We all love acoustic, folk, and traditional music, so getting to explore those vibes has been a really fun challenge for us. Releasing these acoustic singles allows us to showcase what we are capable of as artists and hopefully people can connect with the tracks in new ways,” explains vocalist Maisie.
The original EP ´Songs To Fight The Gods To’ is out now via Silent Cult Records and was recorded with Neil Kennedy (Creeper, Boston Manor) at The Ranch Studios. The five tracks cover topics of decrowning the patriarchy, the uncertainty of destiny, and rallying against a capitalist hellscrape, and embrace influences from 2000s Emo, such as My Chemical Romance and Paramore, to the 808 beats and synth elements of hip-hop and EDM production. Also heavily influenced by ancient mythology and narratively, the EP follows the journey of one person's battle at a fabled mountain, to stand face to face and destroy their gods.
The band embrace not fitting in, which resonates with their fan base and has built an organic community, coined as the ‘Daggerverse’. The genre-melting ensemble use gigs as a space to welcome those that don’t belong anywhere else, and to celebrate the darker side of people; in one big therapeutic party.
The band are currently preparing to play a homecoming show, and their biggest headliner to date, on 24th February at The Leadmill, Sheffield. Last few tickets available HERE.
