Stockport's Best Kept Secret The Maddocks Kickstart The Year With Furious New Single 'How's Albert?'

Pre-Save

2023 was a big year of firsts for The Maddocks. From releasing their debut single in January (subsequently earning the band their first radio play on Radio X), to selling out their first ever Manchester headline before wowing audiences across the North on their summer tour, the band have gone from strength to strength and taken everything that’s come their way in their stride. Now, as a new year dawns, The Maddocks are ready for their first adventure of 2024: the release of their debut EP, ‘What’s On The Menu?’.

Consisting of an extended version of their most recent single ‘Ronnie O’Sullivan’, along with three previously unheard tracks, the self-released ‘What’s On The Menu?’ is a showcase of The Maddocks’ diverse and unique songwriting, with influences ranging from a wide span of musical styles. The lyrical inspirations for the songs come from a vast array of topics, from snooker champions to the monarchy, as well as personal stories and reflections.

Indeed, the second single to be taken from said EP,‘How’s Albert?’, is a snarling slice of grunge flavoured post-punk that feels like two facets of the band meeting in a single two-and-a-half minute barrage. Unfettered it may be, but it’s far from uncultured. Featuring the band’s trademark acerbic lyricism, it’s a less than subtle hint towards the band’s stance on monarchy.

With the EP out in a little over a month, ‘How’s Albert?’ is the second taste offered by The Maddocks ahead of its release, and it’s a track that’s likely to see the floorboards of Manchester’s Deaf Institute shake when the track gets an airing on February 24th.

The Maddocks are:

George Edwards (lead vocals, lead guitar, synthesisers)

Siobhán Lally (bass guitar, backing vocals, percussion)

Alex Tollerfield (rhythm guitar, backing vocals)

Ed Gibbins (drums, backing vocals, percussion)
