SUCKER PUNCH PUT FORTH EMO ANTHEM WITH CAN’T SWIM’S CHRIS LOPORTO ON “I’M READY TO RIDE GIANTS, KUNU”

Sucker Punch have teamed up with fellow New Jersey musician Chris LoPorto of Can’t Swim to deliver their potent next single “I’m Ready To Ride Giants, Kunu.”

Definitively emo with a coarse edge, Sucker Punch explore themes of disappointment in oneself. Vocalist Chris Steele seeks to conquer regret throughout the track with the mantra, “Self doubt so overrated / I’m stuck here in my own head / I’d kill to never feel this way again.”

In a subgenre with plenty of cynicism and forecasted misery, it’s a refreshingly cool-headed track. “I’m Ready To Ride Giants, Kunu” encourages listeners to take control of their lives and mold themselves into someone they’re proud of.

Harsh vocals and dynamic percussion lead the song with confidence, while an ambient prechorus and verses give the song room to breathe before kicking back into the power chord-driven chorus.

LoPorto’s feature adds a sharpness that highlights the best of Sucker Punch’s post-hardcore influences. “I wanna know just how well I have been keeping up / Made up expectations, anxious inner narrations,” LoPorto sings over a soundscape of clean lush guitars and a driving bassline.

Guitarist Billy Butka described the song’s inspiration: “‘I'm Ready to Ride Giants, Kunu’ is an anthem for those stuck in the vicious cycle of self doubt. We had the pleasure of working with Can't Swim's Chris LoPorto to deliver a powerful performance to help extinguish those negative thoughts keeping you down.”

“I’m Ready To Ride Giants, Kunu” premiered on idobi Radio on Tuesday, September 19th.

“I’m Ready To Ride Giants, Kunu” follows “Worst Case Ontario” as the second single off the band’s upcoming EP Better Pleasures, slated for a fall release.

ABOUT SUCKER PUNCH

Sucker Punch is a fresh and hard-hitting band with old ties to both the New Jersey and Philly DIY punk scenes. Garnering influences from The Story So Far, early Fall Out Boy, and New Found Glory, this band bridges the gap between the early 2000s emocore wave of bands, and the current movement of emo and pop punk. Sucker Punch aims to take a strong focus on personal and self-reflective lyrical content, framed within upbeat and catchy riffs and melodies. Within months of starting as a solo project, the band now consists of lifelong friends who all share the same passion for both alternative music and culture. Their soon-to-be-released EP Better Pleasures will take the band’s sound in a more dynamic and anthemic direction.
